5 Things the Bible Says about Wisdom

Many of us assume that wisdom can only be achieved at the end of our lives, after experiencing a lifetime of successes and failures. But God desires us to have wisdom all our lives by relying on Him. Be encouraged by these 5 things the Bible says about wisdom:

  • “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

  • “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

  • “Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.” Proverbs 19:20

  • “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24

  • “A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.” Proverbs 29:11

3 Questions to Ask Before Making a Decision

We make decisions every day. Some decisions are easy: what to wear, what to eat, and what to watch. Some decisions are tougher: what career path to take, how to spend out money, what relationships to pursue.

Whether you’re making a big or small choice, here are 3 questions to ask before making a decision.

  1. What are the short-term effects of this decision? Think through what the immediate ramifications of your choices could be. For example, if you buy something, you’ll have less money in our bank account. Or if you eat a meal, your body will feel full. When making any decision, it’s key to begin by thinking through the immediate, short-term effects.

  2. What are the long-term effects of this decision? It’s not just about what we see right in front of us. Instead, it’s important to consider how our decisions will affect our future. For example, if you consistently make expensive purchases, the funds in your bank account will continue to decrease. Or if you frequently eat unhealthy meals, your health will suffer. Be sure you understand how daily decisions can lead to habitual decisions and long-term effects.

  3. What are some potential unforeseen effects of this decision? As you decide which direction to pursue, it’s vital that you consider all the possible outcomes. For example, large expenses and a diminishing bank account may lead to a tight budget or even bankruptcy. Unhealthy meals and an unhealthy lifestyle may lead to a scary medical diagnosis or even a shorter life span. That’s why considering potential unforeseen effects of our decisions is so vital.

Time management skills: we all want them, but few of us know how to get them. So let's take a look at 5 simple, intentional ways to make the most of your time and accomplish your goals.

  1. Set yearly goals. It's easy to get caught up in the busyness of day to day life. That's why it's important to begin with your overall strategy and think through the big things you want to accomplish - the things that take time, effort, and planning.

  2. Set quarterly goals. Next, transition into your quarterly goals by listing the things you need to do in the spring, summer, fall, and winter in order to achieve your annual goals.

  3. Set monthly goals. Continue to break out your big goal into individual months. What three steps do you need to take each month to reach your quarterly goals - all laddering up to your yearly goals.

  4. Set weekly goals. Next, move into your weekly goals. What tasks need to get done before the weekend? What meetings and projects need your focus?

  5. Set daily goals. And finally, start each day with a daily to-do list of goals. What are the most important things that you need to get done before the day is over?
